Join us Tuesday, October 27th (yes, Tuesday, not Thursday) at the award-winning Hamburger University for a spectacular evening that will include:

“Backstage” and “Onstage” tours of select areas of Hamburger University.
  • Ever wonder how McDonald’s trains their employees? This is your chance to learn a bit more about how it’s done!
  • Their curriculum is delivered using a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on lab activities, goal-based scenarios and computer e-learning modules, some of which we’ll experience.

Fishbowl Team Meeting and Facilitated Discussion.

  • This is where we pay it forward. We will look on as members of McDonald’s Hamburger University, led by McDonald’s Chief Learning Officer, Rob Lauber and his team discuss a current project’s progress, challenges and triumphs.
  • This is not just a peek into their world. At times we’ll be asked for help as they weave their way through some problem solving. This session will be fun and beneficial for all.


  • 5:30 - 6:15 pm: Registration, Networking, Cash Bar and Tours
    (Small group tours will start whenever groups of 10 assemble. Last tour starts promptly at 6:15. No late tours, so be sure to get there early.)
  • 6:30 - 7:30 pm: Sit-Down Plated Dinner 
  • 7:30 - 8:30 pm: Fishbowl Program

What’s a Road Show?  It’s our latest chapter event format, during which we visit local icons in Talent Development. 

Cancellation Policy: All event registration fee refund requests must be submitted in writing to admin@atdchi.org prior to any event. Requests must be submitted at least three (3) business days prior to the event to receive a full refund. No refund will be provided for cancellations received within three (3) business days or for event attendee no-shows.


About Hamburger University

In 1961, Fred Turner, McDonald’s former senior chairman and Ray Kroc’s first grillman, founded Hamburger University in the basement of a McDonald’s restaurant in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

About Rob Lauber

Rob is the Chief Learning Officer at McDonald’s Corporation. Rob joined McDonald’s in July 2014 and has responsibility for the overall learning and talent development strategy and execution across all 35,000 restaurants around the world. 

Prior to his current role, Rob was the Vice President, Yum! University at Yum! Brands. In this role, he was responsible for leading the direction and strategy for Yum! University and its programs as well as providing learning leadership and strategy globally across the Yum! system.

Rob has been recognized multiple times by CLO Magazine for his work on achieving business impact, leading business change, learning technologies and global learning. He was most recently recognized as the 2013 CLO of the Year. He is frequently a participant in panel discussions, webinars, and learning profession related articles across the globe.

Rob holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Scranton as well as an M.S. in Human Resources Development from Rochester Institute of Technology.
