Born Leaders Are Unicorns: Here's a Development Strategy for the Rest of Us

Only 7% of executives think their companies develop leaders effectively. In this session with one of the world’s leading authors and experts on leadership, you’ll learn the mindset that’s absolutely critical for effective leadership and an applicable game plan for transforming leaders at all levels.

Specifically, participants will learn:

  • Why an outward mindset is critical to successful leadership and organizations.
  • How to shift to an outward mindset.
  • A set of powerful tools that can be applied immediately that help develop an outward mindset personally and organizationally.

Speaker

James (Jim) Ferrell is a managing partner and author at the Arbinger Institute. He has authored or co-authored multiple bestselling books, including Arbinger’s international bestsellers, Leadership and Self-Deception, The Anatomy of Peace, and The Outward Mindset. His publications have sold many millions of copies and have been translated into more than thirty languages.

Mr. Ferrell has degrees in economics and philosophy and is a graduate of Yale Law School, where he serves on the Yale Law School Executive Committee. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Brigham Young University Law School. He joined the California Bar in 1992 and began his career as an attorney at the major international law firm, Latham & Watkins. In 1996, he left his legal practice, joined with his university mentor (whose scholarly work solves a problem crucial to organization performance— the self-deception paradox), and co-founded the Arbinger Institute.

In his role as managing partner, Mr. Ferrell directs the development of Arbinger’s training and consulting programs and the development and customization of Arbinger’s intellectual property. He is a sought-after speaker, teacher, and adviser to leaders of corporations, governments, and organizations of all kinds around the world on the topics of leadership, collaboration, culture change, mindset change, conflict resolution, alignment, and strategy. Mr. Ferrell has provided training and consulting expertise internationally to leaders and organizations across a broad range of industries, including technology, telecommunications, banking and finance, health care, retail, consumer products, aerospace, automotive, transportation, education, energy, entertainment, athletics, insurance, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and professional services.
